This was painted
at the time of the Sea Empress disaster, when Pembrokeshire's famous
beaches disappeared under 72,000 tons of crude oil. All this happened
just 2 weeks before my first ever solo exhibition and I had just finished
painting many of those beaches. Sorrow is a visualation of how I felt
when I first saw the extent of the damage. All the beach paintings
were hung together on the same wall in the gallery and sorrow was
placed in the centre. I had a point to make. © Adrian James 1996 |
